Thermal Putty (Thermal Paste-like Filler) is a highly viscous, malleable thermal interface material that is neither as fluid as Thermal Paste nor as rigid as Thermal Pad. This specialized material is used specifically in areas with irregular or large gaps between the heatsink and chipset, where the Pad doesn't provide sufficient contact or where the Paste might leak. Some laptop brands (e.g., some Dell/Alienware models) use Putty as the factory default for components like VRM and VRAM. Putty offers the advantage of completely filling the gap while providing high conductivity.
